Roger Ebert: Why I Hate 3-D Movies

I think that the great art of story telling can coexist with innovative technologies like 3D movies. Perhaps I’m being naive in disagreeing with someone of Roger Ebert’s stature. I agree on one point: not every movie needs to be in 3D. Even bolder, a movie with a great story will outsell a 3D movie with a mediocre storyline. Similarly, I agree that a flood of 3D movies will be released, just as the iTunes app store is inundated with superfluous garbage like iFart. However, there’s something to be said about movies that provide an enhanced experience because they can be viewed in 3D. Case in point: not necessarily Avatar, but certainly Hubble 3D. Can’t wait to watch that one … the trailers looked delightfully impressive.
